"He surrendered a short time ago and is now inside the facility," a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman said. "He'll go through an orientation process and will begin serving his sentence." The actor is at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean in Lewis Run, Pa.
Snipes, who earned $40 million in the three years he didn't file a return, was convicted in 2008 in Ocala, Fla., while being found not guilty on felony charges of tax fraud and conspiracy. Snipes said he's made good on taxes owed, and blames bad advisors for his failure to file.
The "Blade" actor filed a number of appeals, including a last-ditch emergency petition Wednesday asking that he be allowed to remain free on bail while a retrial was reconsidered in light of information about a juror that was broadcast during on Snipes' "Larry King Live" interview Tuesday.
