Drake is tired of being a pawn in Common's promotional scheme, or at least that's what it sounds like he's saying. In an interview with Nah Right Drizzy shared that he wasn't going to
respond to Common with a diss track, noting that Common was likely engaging him in the rap battle to promote his latest album The Dreamer/The Believer.
“No. Because despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a ‘hip hop moment’ or a ‘battle for the sake of musical integrity’…it’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album,” he said. “More than anything it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story.”
Instead Drake says he's on to bigger and better things, his Club Paradise tour being the next thing.
“I have begun working on new music already and I’ll be recording during the whole college tour with 40," he said. "Making better music and building myself as a business is all that’s on my mind. Hopefully some acting as well.”
Drake will be accompanied on the tour by opening acts Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky, two of the most promising up-and-coming MCs to break through in 2011.
The tour comes as promotion for his sophomore album Take Care which debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 631,000 copies in it's first week.
