3 Bodies Recovered in Ovia River


via pmnewsnigeria Three bodies have been recovered in Ovia River, five days after a  tanker conveying 33, 000 litres of kerosene from Warri to Lagos,  crashed into the Ovia River along
Benin-Ore Road in  Nigeria’s Edo State. Benin Toll Gate Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Adewale Ameen who confirmed the accident to journalists on phone, said they were not aware of the incident until the body of one of the victims was sighted.

“The tanker is still inside the river with 33,000 litres of kerozene. The tanker loaded from Warri plunged into the river. There was no trace until one of the bodies floated out on Saturday,” Ameen said. He disclosed that a NUPENG identity card was found on the victim and upon inquiry, they learnt that there were other victims still trapped in the river.

It was gathered that rescue operation to retrieve bodies of the three occupants of the ill-fated truck began on Saturday after following the sighting of one of the bodies floating on the River. Adewale said officials of NUPENG informed them about the tanker and the victims, adding that they were able to bring the bodies of the other two occupants of the truck, the engine and chassis of the tanker on Tuesday.
