sources channelstv.com There are reports of explosions and gunfire heard in Kano this
morning. Residents in northern Nigeria’s largest city say at least six explosions were heard before Muslim dawn prayers began, adding that explosions were followed by an hour long gun battle in the city’s Badawa district.

It is unclear what the cause of the explosions were or who the perpetrators behind the attacks were, however, residents claim the attacks are related to the Boko Haram sect.

Kano city was the site of one of the sect’s most deadly attacks. Multiple explosions and gunfire ripped through the city of nine million people on 20 January, claiming at least 185 lives and injuring many more. The sect had claimed responsibility for the attacks then, which had targeted security officials.

The radical Islamic sect has been on the offensive in northern Nigeria since 2009.
