sources thesource.com Jay-Z took over Carnegie Hall, but some things at the show left us
scratching our heads.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Jay-Z performed two sold out nights at the coveted NYC Carnegie Hall venue. It was great for the culture and for his Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation and United Way of NYC. Hip-Hop never looked so good!
Jay brought Hip-Hop to a whole different stage, and we recognize just how monumental it is for us. But, there were just a few things about his performance that were very non-rapper like. Hey, remember when Jay-Z used to say: "I'm not a rapper." Hmmm, maybe. Check it out and see for yourself.
No Blue Ivy?
C'mon if there was any time to show Blue Ivy off to the world real quick it would be on stage at Carnegie Hall. Picture it 10 years down the road, "you know the first time anyone ever saw you? It was a February night of 2012 I showed you off to the world on stage..." Think about it the crowd was too busy pinkies out there is no danger. This would've really made that first performance of "Glory" special.
Liza Minnelli In Attendance
Liza Minnelli attends Hip-Hop concert... hey, it is 2012 right?
Jay-Z's Wardrobe Changes
Fashion is becoming a bigger and bigger statement in Hip-Hop. Who wore what with what? Well, Jay transformed from black tuxedo to a slick white coat to a black T-Shirt.
The Ticket Price
Whether it be a fund raiser or not steep ticket prices are always a topic of conversation when it comes to Hov live. I guess an artist of his stature placed in a venue of this magnitude doesn't seem right to make it affordable to those who helped him get to that stage. Those fans will have to wait for tickets to see Jay at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn when it opens.
Kanye and Jay-Z had old white folks dancing out there seats at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show. The only thing that could have topped that would be the performance of the hit off Watch The Throne at NYC's most elegant venue. That shit would have been Kray-zy
No Smoke In The Air
If you've caught any Jay-Z show especially in New York within the first few cuts live there is an instant cloud. Maybe those same people couldn't afford the ticket (reference #3). I'm sure if anyone attempted to spark one these pass two nights they would be exiting like Jazzy Jeff in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
No New Material
To keep up with is whole secretive approach of recording following WTT, Jay-Z could have found it cordial to perform some new material off his upcoming album maybe a taste would've filled our ears just enough. Acappella? This is bigger than the planetarium.
The Venue
There is no bigger stage left for Jay-Z to perform on from Yankee Stadium to Glastonberry to MSG to The Staples Center he's stood on them all.
