hemorrhage that forced her to cancel numerous tour stops and singing engagements. Now, having gone through successful laser surgery on her throat, the 23-year-old star is speaking out about what it was like to lose the use of her voice.
In an interview with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes that will air on Sunday, Adele talks about a five-week period after the surgery where she wasn't allowed to talk at all.
"It was hard, it was really hard... I love talking," she said. To get through the mute period, Adele said she wrote down whatever she had to say, or typed it into an app on her smartphone.
"I had a note pad and I also had an application on my phone," she said. "You type the words into it and then it speaks it. The great thing is, because I love to swear — most of them you can't swear — I found this one app where you can swear, so I'm still really getting my point across."
Adele, who canceled her U.S. and U.K. tour dates last fall, will perform live for the first time in months at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 12 on CBS. Her full interview with 60 Minutes will air just prior.
