Rockie Fresh, the 21-year-old upstart from Chicago, is the latest signee to Rick Ross's
Maybach Music Group. Fresh broke the news on Twitter last night, with Ross chiming in to welcome his new artist.
"Salute to @rickyrozay for seeing my vision. We #RichForever #MMG," Rockie wrote.
"Everyone Welcome @rockiefresh to the @MaybachMusicGrp Family!!!!" Rozay replied, attaching an Instagram photo of Rockie signing his contract. Shortly after, Rockie Fresh became a trending topic worldwide.
BET.com spoke with Rockie, a BET Music Matters artist, in August of last year, shortly after he had embarked on his first tour opening up for Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. At the time, he talked about using his relatively normal upbringing as an asset.
"I grew up in the suburbs and just had a super normal life," he said. "I played sports and all of that — I was exposed to a lot of people of different colors and races and people that had different experiences and backgrounds from me. I think that experience has made it so that, instead of shying away from things that are different from me when it comes to music, I’m more likely to embrace them."
Rockie's most recent mixtape, Driving 88, was released in January.
